Marathon is loaded with natural wonders to visit! Here are a few suggestions so perhaps you could pack a picnic lunch and make a day trip with the whole family. For more specific details contact us here at Neys Lunch & Campground.

• Pebble Beach in Marathon

A dream for all rock hounds at the end of Howe Street, a 2 km beach of smooth, naturally polished rocks. Picnic tables, and play area available. When entering Marathon, stay on Peninsula Rd until you cross the railway tracks. Turn left here and continue down Stevens Avenue until you reach Howe St. At Howe, make a right turn and continue past the four way stop to Pebble Beach.

• White River Suspended Bridge

You will feel like an Indiana Jones crossing this bridge as you feel it move and peek at the rushing white water below. This bridge is located within Pukaskwa National Park, just 20 minutes East of Marathon off Hwy 627. It is a 7.6 Km hike one way so plan to make a day of it. Pack lots of liquids and food, and be sure to wear comfortable hiking shoes. All visitors must register at the park Visitor center before leaving on their hike.

• Carden Cove

Future site of the Marathon Marina, Carden Cove offers a sheltered bay perfect for swimming on those hot summer days. To access Carden Cove drive down the marina road across from Spadoni Motors and right beside the Kingdom Hall on Peninsula Road. A short walk through a path on the left side of the end of the road will bring you to the sandy beach along the beautiful shore of Lake Superior.

    



 

   
    
 

 Geocaching

Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices. The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, outdoors and then share your experiences online. Geocaching is enjoyed by people from all age groups, with a strong sense of community and support for the environment.

• Sand Dunes at The Mouth of The Pic

An excellent spot to view Natural succession and an excellent place to fish from shore. Located off Highway 627, turn right at the Pic River Bridge just before Pukaskwa national park.

• Boat Launch

is located just across the road in Neys Provincial Park on the Little Pic River near the entrance to Campground Area 4.


• Marathon Recreation Complex

Marathon Recreation Complex is a focal point for recreation in Marathon. It is home to their arena, indoor swimming pool and theatre. Marathon Arena has a standard size ice surface, and is host to numerous hockey tournaments and figure skating competitions throughout Marathon's busy fall and winter seasons. Port Hole Pool is an indoor pool that has 5 lanes, and is 25 meters long with the deep end being 10 ½ feet deep and the shallow end being 3 ½ feet deep. The deep end has a 1 meter diving board. Also in the pool is a therapeutic hot pool and sauna. Marathon Theatre is a privately-operated theatre offering the latest movie releases as well as a full service concession.
