Beginning in Terrace Bay , along the spectacular 100 foot Aguasabon Gorge, the scenic trail (offering an intimate look at unspoiled wilderness) follows the shoreline. The trail hops from bay to bay until finally reaching it's end in Rossport- the total length being 52km. For those who do not wish to attempt the entire trek, the trail is divided into 5 sections, each with its own access point from Hwy. 17 and each presenting its own unique wilderness experience. These sections vary in hiking time and difficulty so that both the advanced and the amateur hiker can enjoy the north shore.
The Casque Isles Hiking Club organizes guided hikes, trail blazing parties, and general meetings to discuss ideas and issues. If you would like more information, contact the Tourist Information Centre, or call Dan McGrath at (807) 824-2016. Ask for a schedule of the hike dates for the summer.
The Casque Isles Trail is part of a larger trail system, the Voyageur Hiking Trail. The Voyageur Trail parallels much of the early trade route used by the fur traders and the natives to travel along Lake Superior . You can visit the Voyageur Trail Association web site to find out more information on the trail system. |
